Progress in deconstructing lyrics

This is what I've done so far in deconstructing the lyrics to my chosen song 'Stay Awhile'. I've decided that on one side I'm going to analyse the word choices used in the song, and on the other side of paper I'll put down the imagery it creates and how you could make a music video out of it.

Deconstructing lyrics and Research

To really get a feel for what we need to have our music video like, I've been doing some research on other people's blogs to see how they deconstructed lyrics of songs. Doing this gave me inspiration to deconstruct the lyrics of the song I've chosen so my music video is the best quality it can be.

Research for music video, discussing with Alysia

In this lesson Alysia and I discussed our strengths and weaknesses in terms of our advanced media portfolio. Together we came to conclusions as to how we would like our video to look and sound, and how we could improve on our weaknesses and our strengths

Questions for our focus group

In order to have a good quality music video we need our target audience's opinion on what makes a good music video: for this to happen we have organised a focus group. Our focus group interview will allow us to find out their band knowledge, perception of music in general, their video ideas and so on. These are examples of questions Alysia and I will be asking them.

Questions for focus group
  1. How old are you?
  1. Favourite genres of music? How many?
  1. How much do you spend a month on music?
  1. CD or download?
  1. Do you prefer male or female artists?
  1. What attracts you the most to a music video?
  1. What don’t you like in music videos?
  1. What colours do you find soothing?
  1. What colours do you find euphoric?
  1. Name 5 favourite artists/bands?
  1. Favourite music video? Why?
  1. Do you find music to be useful in society? Why?
  1. What do you think of our song’s lyrics? Why?
  1. What would you expect the packaging to be like on an indie/rock/acoustic digipak?

  1. Examples of digipaks, analyse.

SoundCloud group discussion

our soundcloud discussion

In this lesson, we discussed similarities and differences of four music videos. Two of which were rap, and the other two were dance. We discovered that the main similarities between the two rap videos were the excessive amounts of alcohol and drug references as well as objectifying girls in their videos. Whereas the dance videos were story-telling and portray young adults, specifically white middle class, going out and having fun partying. We found that the target audiences, however, for both videos were of a similar age range: 18-25 years old.

Evaluation of your AS course and your intentions for A2.

My initial impressions of the task were that it was going to be really difficult to complete on time due to me not having filmed a music video before or had experience with editing etc.
What excites me about this course is being able to learn how to use Adobe Premiere Elements to edit my music video as it is something I've never done before.
A problem I envisage facing is being able to get everything planned and recorded on my blog in time.

Introduction and first few lessons

This is my blog that I will be using to post updates on research, planning, and final pieces of my coursework for my G324 A2 Media. I will be posting regularly and in full detail of what I have been doing in order to keep up to date.
In my first couple lessons we have been discussing and researching digipaks. Through my research I have been analyzing different types of digipaks and the strengths and weaknesses about them, the use of language on the digipak, the 'persuasive' factor, how it represents the artist's/band's music and ideas I have gained. Here is an example of some of my work while analyzing Chameleon Circuit's digipak for 'Still Got Legs'.
